– Fall, Polar bear season (October-November): In Churchill we say, “There’s no such thing as cold weather, just cold clothing.” While we understand that might sound a bit bold, we can’t emphasize enough the importance of proper gear. Temperatures can plunge below -30°C during this season, so you would imagine staying warm is essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.
Our recommendation:
– Summer, Beluga whale season (July-August):
Summer in Churchill offers a unique opportunity to witness the wonders of the Arctic. From June to August, thousands of beluga whales gather in the waters, and polar bears can be seen in their summer habitats. While the Northern sun can be intense, especially on the water, the weather can be unpredictable. Expect temperatures to range from as high as 25°C to as low as 0°C, so it’s important to pack a variety of clothing layers to stay comfortable throughout the day.
